How Business Owners Should Prepare for
the Corporate Transparency Act
The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) is a new federal law that went into effect on January 1, 2024. The law was created to help combat financial crimes like money laundering, tax evasion, corruption, and terrorist financing by improving the transparency of business ownership and structure.
The CTA requires most companies doing business in the United States file a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Report with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau of the U.S. Treasury, by the end of 2024.
